NEW FACULTY MEMBERS

Four new faculty members have joined us this year: Mr. Akhtar Hussain an M.Sc. in Mathematics, who has teaching experience at the International School and the Sultana Foundation College, Islamabad. Mr. Jamil Mughal an M.A. in English Literature, who has experience at the Fauji Foundation College, Rawalpindi. Mr. Jamil’s skills in music and a flare for the performing arts, have been of great value to us. Another valuable addition to our faculty is a teaching couple, Mr. and Mrs. Raees Ahmed. Mr. Raees is about to complete his PhD in Biochemistry, while Mrs. Saima Raees has Masters in Physics.

ITE COURSE

The first ITE diploma course of eighteen months started on 2nd July 2000, with an intake of twenty local graduate girls. Sixteen girls have completed the course for the postgraduate diploma in education and most of them have been offered placements in local schools. The second ITE course commenced on 31st July 2001, with an intake of twenty one trainees from AK Govt schools, Tameer-e-Millat School (Mianwali), PVPS and local private students. Unfortunately the course had to be suspended temporarily due to the Afghan crisis, as VSO master trainers from the UK had to leave Pakistan for security reasons. It was a setback for the Institute but VSO volunteers are returning shortly and the course will restart in March, 2002.

VSO VOLUNTEERS

Joan Atkinson Director of the Institute, left for the UK in May 2001 after completing her tenure with the VSO. Her four years with KEF, first as Principal of PVPS and then as the founder Director of the ITE have been invaluable for both the projects; she laid solid foundations and set high standards. Joan has since been appointed as a Trustee of KEF-UK and continues to work for the Foundation with a promise to return to the ITE to teach for two to three months every year. Ms Elvie Herd took over as Director of the ITE from Joan Atkinson and greatly consolidated the ITE. Ann Gibson joined the Institute in April 2001, as the new Director of the ITE at the end of Elvie’s tenure.

NEW  ITE  BUILDING

Dr. Attiya Inayatullah, Federal Minister for Women's Development, Social Welfare and Special Education visited the ITE on 27th October, 2001. She met the trainees and commended the quality of their work. She also laid the foundation stone for the new ITE building, which will be completed within two years. This will eventually enable the ITE to vacate the PVPS building where they are presently housed.
